When does PI34 take effect?
New teachers, pupil services and administrators: PI-34 applies to those completing degrees
after 8/31/04. All will be licensed as "Initial Educators."
Veteran teachers, pupil servies and administrators: Those with licenses expiring in 2004 may work
towards "Professional Educator" re-licensure after 7/1/04. (This is a 5-year process. This means you'll
be re-certifying 7/1/09, which is the first year it will be offered). Those whose license expire in
2005 - 08 will need to use the "old" license renewal system.
Important note: Veterans need not apply for an Initial Educators license unless they are getting a
different certification than which they currently hold.
